Zinnia seeds are one of the more easier seeds to germinate but to increase your success follow the steps below.

Supplies needed - Seed Starting Mix, Plug Flats or Small Plots, Waterproof Bottom Trays, Fine Vermiculite, Acrylic Clear Dome Lids, Plant Tags Heat Mats and Lights (if germinating indoors).
Start by moistening seed starting mix until it’s damp but not dripping wet.
Fill seed trays or pots to the top with soil, tapping them firmly on the table as you go to compact the soil slightly so there are no air pockets and then place tray into waterproof bottom tray.
Label the tray or pot with the variety you plan to sow and date planted.
Make a shallow hole in each cell of your tray or pot using a pencil, chopstick or screwdriver. General rule is to plant the seed twice as deep as its longest side.
Drop one seed into each hole and cover with soil and a light dusting of vermiculite.
Cover the tray or pot with a clear plastic acrylic dome and place on heat mat at 70F degrees. If germinating indoors use grow lights until transferring to outside.
Check soil every few days to make sure it’s not drying out. Water from below by placing an inch of water in bottom tray if needed. Seeds usually sprout within 5 to 7 days.
Once seeds have sprouted continue to grow in cells/pots for 6 to 8 weeks and then plant in garden.
Happy Growing!!!
I will be selling Zinnia seeds this spring starting in March 2025.
